The World in your Classroom 2015: share your culture!
After a successful second edition, The World in your Classroom (TWIYC) will once again take place in classrooms throughout The Hague. From 16 to 27 November Internationals living in The Hague will volunteer their time to give guest lectures about their home countries to Dutch high school students.
TWIYC is an initiative of the Municipality of The Hague, ACCESS, PEP Participation Professionals and The Hague Bridge. The programme enables international residents of The Hague to do volunteer work in English, French and German at high schools in The Hague.
Last year more than 75 internationals participated in the programme, giving high school students aged 12 to 16 an opportunity to learn more about different countries, cultures and traditions and to practice their English in a fun way.
According to programme coordinator Lucie Cunningham: ‘We’ve had a lot of positive feedback, both from participating schools and from internationals. TWIYC teaches students about the diversity of the people and cultures in their hometown. It challenges them to think beyond cultural stereotypes. And for internationals it’s a great way to give back to the community and to meet like-minded people.’
