Country of the Month August | Taiwan
As a variation to our ‘Company of the Month’ news feature, we are happy to announce Taiwan as our first ‘Country of the Month’. We would like to highlight Taiwan because of the many businesses active in the Dutch market and the growing cooperation between the Taiwanese and Dutch governments in recent years.Throughout the years, The WFIA has assisted several Taiwanese companies (Aver, AverMedia, Qnap, Aeon Astron, TLC, Nankang etc.) with their business expansion plans in our region.
According to Richard Vong, Chairman for the Taiwanese Business Association in the Netherlands, the economic and trade relationship between Taiwan and the Netherlands is stronger than ever:
“The Taiwan Business Association (TBA) in the Netherlands was established 21 years ago. It currently has 100 active company members operating in various industries such as ICT, Electronics, Semiconductor, Transportation, Logistics, Consultancy, Bicycle, Automobile accessories, Agriculture and Trading. Most of them are subsidiary companies of Taiwan Top 100 corporations or leading companies in their respective industry globally.
During the ‘90s, the Netherlands became the most important portal for Taiwanese companies in the European region, especially in the field of ICT products and machineries. The Netherlands has always been the most important trade partner of Taiwan in this region and this growth trend has continued over the past 3 years as a result of the efforts of both governments. In 2012, the Netherlands was the #1 EU country for Taiwanese investments (39.21%) as well as the 2nd trade partner (16.11%) in the EU. The total trade balance in 2013 reached EUR 5.8 billion with a year-to-year growth of 13%, with especially strong growth in exports from the Netherlands to Taiwan (trade surplus). Both governments are aiming at mutually expanding the strategic-economic cooperation. Therefore, we foresee that the TBA can play an even more important role in facilitating interactions between the authorities and the Taiwanese business community in the future.
The mission of the TBA is to provide a platform for Taiwanese companies in the Netherlands to communicate and share their experiences, form a bridge between the Dutch and Taiwanese trade authorities (such as the Dutch and Taiwanese investment departments) and TBA’s members, and to provide a soft landing in the Netherlands to newly arrived companies, their staff and their families . In order to meet these goals the TBA organizes each year several events with specialists in different fields as well as leisure activities such as golf events and dinners”.
TBA is looking forward to further strengthen the relationship with WFIA regarding the assistance of Taiwanese companies with their business inquiries in the Netherlands.
