Venza | Solution provider for the hotel industry’s data protection
We are very honoured to announce VENZA as the company of the month May. VENZA is a data protection company that was founded in 2008. The company is passionate about the development of technology and services that enable hotels to feel more secure concerning guest data breaches and human vulnerability. We spoke to Mr. Daniel Johnson, partner/co-founder, about their operations in the Netherlands.
For those that aren’t familiar with VENZA, could you tell us a bit more about your company?
“After more than 10 years in business, VENZA has effectively emerged as the ‘go to’ solution provider for the hotel industry’s data protection needs”, says Daniel. “As an industry, hospitality tripled in size between the years 2012 and 2017. Meanwhile, it is consistently ranked as one of the top three most targeted industries by cyber criminals and identity thieves. And now with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in enforcement, never have hoteliers needed comprehensive data protection programs more than today. The company’s flagship package, Denali™, is the answer to that need. It provides not only the situational awareness and best-practice procedural training for which VENZA is globally known, but also visibility into both security threats as well as security protocol behavioral compliance through a variety of auditing and monitoring tools.”
You chose to establish in The Hague in 2017. What was the main reason for choosing for The Hague?
“The selection of The Hague is the result of three important factors. Firstly, the connectivity of the Netherlands, both in terms of technology as well as geography, easily provides our team access to customers and prospects. We are frequently paying visits to destination such as Lisbon, London, Paris, and Berlin. So, The Hague’s proximity to railways and airports was an influencer.
Secondly, the Netherlands positions itself attractively for businesses through valuable programs and access to helpful assistance. I cannot imagine establishing our office without the help of The Hague Business Agency, InnovationQuarter and The Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA). I understand their goal is to provide businesses a “soft landing”. From my vantage point, they’ve delivered against that goal with high marks. Everyone has been so friendly and resourceful, I simply cannot say enough about the great folks that have helped us.
Thirdly, the collaborative community that revolves around the subject of security in the form of The Hague Security Delta (HSD) solidified our selection of The Hague to be the home of VENZA’s European operations. As a growing business, we’re on the hunt for talent and innovative ideas. We believe there is an abundance of both here.”
How have the first months of doing business in The Hague worked out for you?
“As we approach our anniversary, marking one year here in The Hague, I believe our important foundational work is nearly complete. We’ve had many substantive conversations with prospective clients and look forward to seeing our efforts bear fruit in the coming months.“
Are there any upcoming developments or events that you want to share with our audience?
“The spring and early summer is the busy season in terms of hospitality industry events. Members of our European office team, for example, return to the office this week after presenting and exhibiting at the International Hospitality Technology Forum (IHTF) in Majorca, Spain. Globetrotting, they’ll be back on a flight soon to the Hotel Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP) HITEC conference and tradeshow in Houston, TX, USA. There, attendees will no doubt seek our team’s expertise in the GDPR. The balance of the summer and early autumn will consist of traveling lunch-and-learns in select European cities where VENZA will host hoteliers hungry to resolve their own data protection challenges.”
