Synergy International Systems | Small business, global footprint
Meet our Company of the Month of April: Synergy International Systems, a global provider of information technology solutions to government agencies, large development organizations, INGOs and other international institutions. The 250-person company is privately-held and headquartered in the Washington, D.C. metro area, with a Development and Global Learning Center in Yerevan, Armenia, and a regional EU office in The Hague, Netherlands.
Small business, global footprint
Synergy International Systems is a small business with a global footprint, which has in the past 20+ years worked in more than 70 countries helping organizations improve information management, strategy execution, decision making, service delivery, and organizational effectiveness by leveraging sophisticated information technologies. In essence, they strive to empower organizations to become more data-driven in achieving their impact.
Synergy was founded in 1997 in Virginia, United States, by Ashot Hovanesian, who with a small team of talented software architects, started developing sophisticated management information systems. Only a couple of years later, in 1999, Synergy expanded across the globe to Yerevan, Armenia by establishing a software development and capacity building center. This increased their capabilities and global reach, and enabled them to focus on constantly refining their technology to better serve the growing software needs of their clients.
In 2017, Synergy – already a well-respected software provider for development agencies and governments worldwide – took its expansion to the next level, by opening the doors of a regional European office in The Netherlands – a logical step in their growth strategy and largely driven by strong demand for their services (Synergy’s Monitoring and Evaluation software solutions, in particular) from EU institutions and European governments,
This expansion continues with the upcoming opening of a new office in Kigali, Rwanda, later this year. This decision is in line with Synergy’s long-term commitment to supporting Rwanda’s growth and modernization, especially given the fact that they have developed Rwanda IECMS (Integrated Electronic Case Management System) that digitizes the country’s entire justice system.
Why the Hague?
“We chose The Hague as it offers an excellent business environment, close proximity to our existing and prospective clients and partners, and a diverse high-technology talent pool.” says Tilen Levin, director of Synergy’s Dutch office.
“The Hague Business Agency and the NFIA have been instrumental in bringing us to The Hague by offering excellent guidance on the advantages of setting up a business in The Netherlands, as well as helping us with the administrative procedures. We regularly keep in touch with The Hague Business Agency and are grateful for their continued assistance.”
Doing business in The Hague
Synergy International Systems has been fully operational in The Hague since the second half of 2018.
“It has been relatively easy to process all administrative (sometimes complex) procedures needed to become fully operational, usually with the help of friendly English-speaking administrative officers, who often went beyond their duty to help.”
“We have seen very positive results in 2018 and we are confident that we will see substantial growth in 2019. We continue to focus on building our business development capabilities, however we are also looking into potentially setting-up a research and development (R&D) team to drive further innovation.”
